CO hikers and cyclists take the grand tour.
The CO Adventure Series and the CO Cycle Team joined forces recently for a simultaneous hike and cycle around Mont Blanc, the highest peak in the Alps. Retired CO Captain John Heimburger came up with the idea for the joint venture. The two groups met in Chamonix, France, to begin the journey. Thirteen members of the CO Adventure Series, hiking counter-clockwise, covered approximately 100 miles through the French, Swiss and Italian Alps in 11 days. Ten members of the CO Cycle Team set out in the opposite direction, covering 203 miles through three countries and riding six categorized climbs in four days. The groups met on the third day in Les Chapieux, France, before continuing their journeys. The cycling route followed part of stages 16 and 17 of this year’s Tour de France.
